What's baking...

I haven't disappeared or fallen away from this blog already! I actually had a post scheduled to publish but just realised it never did so - very weird. I'm still trying to work out the kinks in using Blogger.

I have been working on a lot of gluten free recipes, including French Macarons! I'm just trying to make things several times before posting them in order to make sure they are the best they can be. I have a gluten free sugar cookie recipe that tastes as divine as the original cookie! I just want to test the recipe once more to be absolutely certain before I post it.

In this experimentation process I've been using a lots of egg whites, resulting in a lot of unused egg yolks, thus I am also experimenting with custards too - can we say nummmmmy!

I don't have a house full of little mouths to gobble up my experiments (although I'm sure my dog would be willing) and I can't eat all of them at once myself or I'd be... well let's just say it wouldn't be healthy. Nor can I afford to just throw food away. So, I simply can't produce at the rate of some blogs. The ones that publish a recipe every day: I don't understand how they do it! They can't be testing their recipes thoroughly (which would explain why some don't work out as well as the blogger claims).

I'm also working on my entry for this year's Pillsbury Bake Off (it's very hush hush - I can't talk or post about it), so that is using up a fair amount of my baking time right now, too.

One last note: although not an actual "baking" post, I am working on a gluten-free pasta post. I've been trying out all kinds of gluten free pasta that I find and buy at grocery stores and co-ops. I've tried cooking rice pasta and they all say they won't fall apart, but they all do! So, I'm trying those made of other grains and will be writing up a review of the brands I can find, indicating which I like best, what are good values, any cooking tips I've learned and so on.

Well, I'm off to the kitchen - I have a couple bags of groceries to put away before I start baking. I just wanted to drop in a quick post to let you all know where I'm at. Look for another post soon.
